Gisele Bethea began her early ballet training in her hometown of Mesa, Arizona with Olga Tarasova. She began pre-professional training at Master Ballet Academy in Phoenix in 2011, with coaches Slawomir and Irena Wozniak. Bethea attended the Youth America Grand Prix New York City Finals twice, winning the Makarova Award for Artistry in 2012 and the Youth Grand Prix in 2013. In 2012, she also received silver medals at Tanzolymp, the World Ballet Competition and the Beijing Invitational for Ballet Schools. Bethea was a silver medalist in the Moscow International Ballet Competition in 2013 and received the Junior Gold Medal at the USA International Ballet Competition in Jackson, Mississippi in 2014.
Bethea appeared in The Nutcracker with Phoenix Ballet from 2011 through 2014 and danced principal roles in the company’s original production Rising, which toured Poland in 2015. As a guest artist, she performed the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker with Fokine Ballet in 2013 and Ballet Mississippi in 2014. In 2014, she danced in the 60th Anniversary Gala Performance of the Beijing Dance Academy in Beijing, China.
Bethea joined American Ballet Theatre’s Studio Company in September 2015, joined the main Company as an apprentice in January 2016 and became a member of the corps de ballet in June 2016.
