Hae Shik Kim was educated at Ewha Woman’s University in Seoul and The Royal Ballet Upper School in London.
Ms. Kim was prima ballerina with the Korean National Ballet Company and danced with the Zurich Opera Ballet in Switzerland and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens in Montreal, Canada. Having retired from the stage, she taught at California State University at Fresno for seventeen years.
She was the artistic director of the Korean National Ballet company from 1993 until 1996, staging several ballets and her own creation, ‘ETERNITE”, a modern ballet piece . She has been the president of bi-annual World Ballet Star Gala Performance since 2000. She was awarded “The Public Artist Prize” in 2001. Ms. Kim has been an Advisory Board member for Performing Arts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and appointed director of Executive Board of Seoul Performing Arts Festival in 2003. She has been an Advisory Board member of Sejong Public Art Center Festival in 2004 and artistic director of the 2nd & 3rd Seoul International Dance Competition. Recently she has been appointed chairman of 2006 Seoul Dance Festival. She received an award of recognition from the Ministry of Culture & Tourism of the Republic of Korea.
Ms. Kim has also served on the jury of several international dance competitions including Varna, Shangai, Lausanne and more. A former vice-president of the Asia Pacific Center for the World Dance Alliance, she is now president of the World Dance Alliance Korea, artistic director of Seoul International Dance Competition and committee member of the President Prize for the Seoul Dance Festival.
