On Friday, September 9, 2011, the Young Stars of Ballet took the stage in Indianapolis in a gala-style performance that celebrated the generation of emerging talent, featured some of ballet’s top professionals, and honored one of the artform’s premier teachers. The performance was captured by WFYI-Public Television for broadcast this Spring nationwide. Don’t miss this phenomenal evening of dance.
The artists performed for David Howard, Master Teacher to the Stars, whose daily classes have been frequented by Mikhail Baryshnikov, Gelsey Kirkland, Natalia Makarova and the stars past and present from the world’s major companies including The Royal Ballet and American Ballet Theatre.
Dancers included Principals Daniil Simkin (ABT) Michelle Wiles (ABT) and Charles Askegard (NY City Ballet); ABT Soloists Alexandre Hammoudi, Yuriko Kajiya and Jared Matthews; Corps de Ballet dancers from National Ballet of Canada as well as students who are winners of major international competitions.
The Young Stars of Ballet performance was underwritten by The Fortune Family, the Clara Noyes Fund for Ballet (a fund of the Indianapolis Foundation, a CICF Affiliate) and by Greg Dawson. The Young Stars of ballet film was made possible by a grant from the Randall and Deborah Tobias Foundation. Indianapolis City Ballet is proud to have been Nominated for a 2012 Emmy Award and is pleased to bring this film to 141 PBS Stations across the country in the winter/spring of 2013/14.
